Facts about Food Allergies
Allergies are caused not only by dust particles or smoke but it can be triggered by foods also. Any food can be a cause of an allergic reaction. Basically food allergies is a vast subject which encircles any type of intolerance caused by any type of food and any reactions which comes up due to this intolerance.
These reactions could be anything from say a simple skin irritation to some life threatening symptoms. Food allergy occurs when the human body mistakes some food for a harmful substance and reacts to it accordingly. The body may respond to this mistake in a certain area such as a blister in the mouth or it could be worse by being a life threatening condition such as swelling of airways due to some acidic foods like tomatoes or berries.

There are some common foods which are associated with allergies such as milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, shellfish, tree nuts to name a few. Food allergies can cause severe problems and it is recommended to consult the doctor and discuss the nature of their allergy. Peanuts and shell fish are causes of severe allergy and can prove to be life threatening. They should therefore be taken seriously.

A person with a food allergy may have a severe reaction and die within minutes. This is not very common in daily life but needs to be addressed because it tells us that a person can have an allergy at any point of time. On the other hand it so happens that a person has health problems but does not know that it is caused due to food allergies. Some of the common symptoms of food allergies are itching, nausea, vomiting, nasal congestion, breathing problems, abdominal cramps, difficulty in swallowing etc. recently, studies have shown that migraine headaches can also be associated with food allergies.
How to Deal with Food Allergies
You can have a healthy, well balanced diet even after eliminating allergic foods from the diet. Now a days there are a lot of substitutes available in the market which help a person to maintain a balanced diet if they are allergic to certain foods. With some foods such as milk and eggs the food industry has come up with substitute so as to allow a person to have a balanced meal after substituting the allergic food product. Soy or goat milk is used to substitute cow milk, wheat products are substituted with rice and other grain products. This helps to bring variety to one’s meal keeping the diet balanced.
